Saving Mothers' and Babies' Lives

In impoverished regions of Ghana, Haiti, and India, WomenStrong works holistically to save mothers' and newborn lives. From anemia screenings and prenatal visits to safe delivery, saving low birthweight babies, vital inoculations, and lessons for new moms in family nutrition and hygiene, our Consortium Members begin by listening to mothers-to-be, meeting their needs, building their strength and knowledge, training their caregivers, and enlisting peer and family support to ensure each baby's safe and healthy beginning.

Help Us Save Lives!

Help us bridge the gap between rights and reality!

In poor communities, your right to deliver your baby safely and access to the care that will enable you to do so, are all too often two different things.

Your contribution can bridge that gap, making it possible for mothers and babies across all our sites to live and thrive!

Make A Life-Saving Difference!

Maternal and Newborn Health

Our three WomenStrong programs focused on maternal and newborn health in areas where public health services weren’t reaching the poorest of the poor. With good training, tools, outreach, and some modest construction, we can now connect mothers and babies to the services they urgently need.

In northernmost Haiti, women in difficult labors carried for hours on donkeys’ backs across treacherous mountain paths can now give birth by emergency cesarean right at our community hospital, thanks to WomenStrong, our Consortium Member H.O.P.E., and doctors newly assigned by the health ministry; in Madurai, India, Consortium Member DHAN Foundation’s mobile screenings identify women at risk and send them to the community hospital, where they are delivered safely by able government doctors.

And in Ghana, WomenStrong Consortium Member Women’s Health to Wealth succeeded in lowering the sky-high neonatal mortality across the Ashanti region by nearly 50%, through a comprehensive package of trainings and interventions, including prenatal visits, training in ultrasound and neonatal resuscitation, and low-resource clinics to treat newborns with minor ailments, thereby reserving the neonatal intensive care unit for the very sickest.

It takes time, thought, training, teamwork, skilled improvisation, and a whole lotta love, to save so many precious lives.
