Johana Simao

Johana Simao, of WomenStrong International

Johana Simao is a French feminist passionate about sustainability – especially in Africa – through a gender lens. During her graduate studies in International Development (at both Paris-Sorbonne University and Columbia University in the City of New York), she became convinced that gender equality is a critical cross-cutting issue in every area of sustainable development that offers more anthropological perspective. This perspective has always been at the core of her studies, her Bachelor’s degree being in Humanities and World History (Paris-Sorbonne University and Complutense University in Madrid, Spain).

Johana has particular interest in food security in Sub-Saharan Africa, which led her to work recently for the FAO, focusing on rural women’s empowerment and gender-mainstreaming in several African countries, especially in Senegal.
