Julia Fan is the Knowledge & Program Manager at WomenStrong International, where she is documenting and sharing broadly some of the most valuable work undertaken by our Consortium members to enable girls and women in impoverished urban settings to thrive.
As a former Fulbright Scholar in China, Julia studied the role of non-governmental organizations in Chinese women’s political empowerment. Fluent in Mandarin, she has worked at New York-based Human Rights in China, the U.S. State Department, with the UN Population Fund Gender Team in Beijing, at the Clinton Foundation, and as a consultant for The Hunger Project. Julia is the founder of SAFER: NYC, a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging men in the movement to end street harassment in NYC and beyond.
Julia has a Master in Public Administration, focusing on gender and development, from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. She graduated from Vassar College with a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese and International Studies.
