Evaluation of the Responsible, Engaged, and Loving (REAL) Fathers Initiative on Physical Child Punishment and Intimate Partner Violence in Northern Uganda

Lab Area: Girls' Education & Empowerment

Region: Africa

Categories: Gender Norms and Positive Youth Development

The REAL Fathers Initiative is a community-based mentoring program that works with young Ugandan fathers (16-25 years old) who are parenting toddlers. Results from the evaluation showed the intervention increased positive parenting practices, boosted confidence in using nonviolent discipline, lowered the use of physical punishment, and decreased incidents of psychological and verbal intimate partner violence.
